Schools that are reopening during the COVID-19 pandemic may try cohorting (or forming “pods”). Cohorting is forming groups of students, teachers, or staff that stay together throughout the school day so that only those within a cohort have close contact with each other and no one else. This lowers exposure and helps prevent the spread of COVID-19 across the school environment. This also helps with contact tracing if someone within the cohort tests positive and allows for targeted testing, quarantine, and isolation of a single cohort instead of the entire school.
If you have questions about whether your child’s school will implement cohorting, be sure to reach out to them.
