Schools that have decided to reopen are taking a number of steps to keep students, teachers, and staff safe. Many schools have upgraded their supplies to support healthy hygiene practices. They also routinely clean and disinfect objects and surfaces that are frequently touched. In addition, schools are working closely with local health officials to review and update their emergency operation plans.
If you have questions about what your child’s school is doing to reduce the spread of COVID-19, be sure to check in with them. Some strategies the school should implement include:
- Promoting behaviors that reduce spread (e.g., social distancing, washing hands and wearing masks or cloth face coverings)
- Maintaining healthy environments (e.g., ensuring proper ventilation, cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces)
- Maintaining healthy operations (e.g., staggering schedules, keeping students in small groups)
- Preparing for when someone gets sick.
