Yes, the Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccinations have received emergency use authorization (EUA) by the FDA for booster shots. Based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an initial booster dose of the COVID vaccine is recommended if:
- You received Moderna, are age 18 and up, and it has been at least 6 months since you received the second dose of your initial vaccination
- You received Pfizer-BioNTech, are age 12 and up, and it has been at least 5 months since you received the second dose of your initial vaccination
- Your received Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen, are age 18 and up, and it has been at least 2 months since your initial vaccination
Additionally, a second booster dose is recommended if:
- You are over the age of 50, and it has been at least 4 months since you received an initial booster dose. You may receive a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna booster.
- You are over the age of 12, are immunocompromised, and it has been at least 4 months since you received an initial booster dose. You may receive the Pfizer-BioNTech booster.
- You are over the age of 18, are immunocompromised, and it has been at least 4 months since you received an initial booster dose. You may receive the Moderna booster.
