Which animals can get COVID-19?

Currently, there is limited information on how COVID-19 affects different animal species. There have been reports of a small number of animals having the virus, including dogs and cats that have been infected after being in close contact with a person who had COVID-19. Research has shown that some species of ferrets, cats, non-human primates, and a certain species of hamsters can be infected with the virus and spread it to other animals of the same species in a laboratory setting. Pigs, chickens, and ducks have not been infected and have not been able to spread the virus in a laboratory setting. Research has shown that dogs are less likely to become infected with COVID-19 when compared to cats or ferrets.
